IMF-krav forverrer krisen for utviklingsland

I en ny rapport viser at IMF-avtaler innebærer krav om økonomisk politikk som har forverret den økonomiske tilbakegangen i 31 av 41 låntakerland.

Ansvarlige for rapporten, Mark Weisbrot fra den progressive tenketanken Center for Economic and Policy Research, mener dette viser at IMF fortsatt begår samme type feil i mange land i dag, som de gjorde i forbindelse med asiakrisen for drøye ti år siden. 

I rapporten slås det fast at det er på tide at Fondet gjennomgår kriteriene, antagelsene og de økonomiske analysene som ligger til grunn for de kravene om makroøkonomisk politikk som utviklingsland stilles overfor.

Forfatterne i rapporten roser imidlertid IMF for én ting, nemlig det at de gjorde $283 milliarder tilgjengelig for medlemsland gjennom Special Drawing Rights (SDR - altså IMFs reservemidler), uten tilknyttede krav. I følge rapporten, bør det neste steget være å fjerne skadelige betingelser som knyttes til IMFs andre utlånsmekanismer.
